The actions of professional food and nutrition within the primary care objective the expansion of quality and intervention plans, noting that the promotion of healthy eating practices constitutes an important item at every stage of life. This study aimed to analyze the maternal knowledge about complementary feeding before and after an educational intervention. It is a cross-sectional survey of descriptive field, in which we used the 102 information (one hundred and two) children of mothers on complementary feeding phase, registered and accompanied by the Basic Health Units (UBS) located in the urban area Afogados the municipality of Ingazeira. As data collection instrument was a questionnaire with objective questions, adapted to Barros & Seyfffarth (2008), to be answered before and after the educational intervention. For data analysis, we used the statistical program Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Given the results, it was noted that the sample of most favored UBS mothers had higher age than 30 years and the UBS disadvantaged children under 30 years, and the mean prevalent education and breastfeeding stage. It was found through the questionnaire that there was a higher number of errors in relation to that offer at lunch, "with what offer" and "how to offer". And fewer errors for "the best time to offer water" and "recommended daily allowance". In addition, the pre-test questionnaire, the good and great performance were represented by mothers aged between 19 and 30 years old and in high school, but in the post-test questionnaire was found that there was no influence of age and education, noting greater proportion of hits in all aspects. Thus, it appears that after the educational activity, we identified a greater safety of mothers in relation to knowledge, regardless of other aspects, with an increase in the number of correct answers, confirming the effectiveness of the educational intervention performed.
