Resumen:
The process of population aging and increasing the number of older adults has, increasingly, the concern to ensure a higher quality of life and health for the aging population. In view of this, programs that promote health and quality of life are becoming increasingly required in these programs and food and nutrition play a fundamental role, because the nutritional status of the elderly is an important aspect for health maintenance. Thus, this study aims to develop and evaluate a food and nutrition education program to promote health and quality of life of a group of adults and seniors who make up the Living Service and Links of Strengthening for older people in the city of Cuité/PB. The methodology used was based on the precepts of popular education and considered as an investigative methodology for building learning strategies food and nutrition. The program was divided into three stages which included: 1st- initial diagnosis made by the initial contact with the group and individual listening held in the homes of study components; 2 - design and development of strategies and activities of food and nutrition education; 3 - evaluation of policies and food and nutrition education activities. It was realized from meetings with the research participants and final assessment records, positive impacts of the program strategies in health and quality of life of adults and the elderly. Features like autonomy, self-care, motivating feelings to food practices have become more present in the reality of individuals. Given the above, it is relevant to highlight the importance of developing food and nutrition education programs that use participatory methodologies guided by the reality and context in which individuals are inserted to generate positive impacts on food choices and aspects related to health.
