Resumo:
The present work aims to constructive elements of masculinities in Rubem Fonesca’s works. For this purpose, we will use the short stories Relátorio de Carlos e A Força Humana, both from the novel “A Coleira do Cão” (1965), as the research focus. We will make considerations on the male gender, noticing in what way the masculinities and its assigned aspects are responsible for the events that happen on the story and how it influence the characters’ actions. we will try to perceive the presence of masculinities as a constructive factor in the brutalism of Fonseca. It is a bibliographic research of qualitative type, made through the articulations between literary theories and gender criticism. As for the theoretical basis on the literature aspects, we based it on Silviano Santiago (2003), Ariovaldo José Vidal (2006), Luciana Coronel (2013), Boris Schnaiderman (1964), Helena Pereira (2011), Beatriz Resende (2008), Alfredo Bosi (1974), Luiz Carlos Simon (2016) and Giorgio Agamben (2009). For the gender related discussions, we referred to Jean-Jacques Corbin Coutrine (2013), Sócrates Nolasco (1995), Pedro Paulo Oliveira (2004), Miguel Vale de Almeida (1996), Pierre Bourdieu (2003), Guy Corneau (1995), Pedro Paulo Oliveira (2004), Miguel Vale de Almeida (1996), Lia Zanotta Machado (2001), Pierre Bourdieu (2003), Guy Corneau (1995), Connell and Robert W. Messerschmidt (2013). In essence, it was possible to identity behaviors associated with the concept of masculinities, such as virility, honor, male domain, symbolic and physical violence, and the existence of hegemonic masculinity. It was noticeable the idea of a perfect male body and the role model of a man. We also can notice how some of the actions made by male characters, had the purpose of self-benefit, for instance, a high position on society.
