Resumo:
The objective of this study is to analyze how a textbook works with the noun inflection and
derivation processes. To do so, we elaborate a theoretical basis starting from notes about the
textbook, ending with the concepts and criteria of flexion and derivation established by
Mattoso (2004). Then, we verified if the 6th year of Elementary School textbook dealt with
the noun inflection and derivation processes; after this, we examine the concepts worked on it;
and later we describe how it treats noun inflection and derivation processes. The theoretical
framework of this study was Descriptive Structuralism based on the discussions of Mattoso
(2004) regarding flexion and derivation of the noun; Coast; Freitag; Motta (1993) when we
pointed out some considerations about the use of the textbook and its functions; as well as in
the Parâmetros Curricularees Nacionais (PCN, 1998) and in the Base Nacional Comum
Curricular (BNCC), when we focused on the linguistic analysis and the objectives of
Portuguese language teaching for Elementary School, not mentioning other authors who
follow this strand and that helped us with their theories. This is a quantitative-qualitative
documentary research. The research universe was the four textbooks of PORTUGUÊS
LINGUAGENS collection. From this universe, we selected as corpus of analysis the book of
the 6th year destined to elementary students. The categories of analysis were the criteria of
regularity/irregularity, agreement/non-agreement, non-optionality/optionality that define the
noun inflection and derivation processes according to Mattoso (2004). The analysis result
indicated that 29% of the textbook activities work inflection or derivation of the noun in a
complete way, which corresponds to 07 activities, 21% work incompletely, which corresponds
to 05 activities, and 50% do not work the noun inflection and derivation processes. From this
result, we consider that there is a low percentage of effectiveness related to linguistic analysis
of the referred processes.
