Abstract:
Having northeasterner types in regional literature, this work discusses these types and their social representations in the novel O Quinze (The Fifteen) of the writer Rachel de Queiroz, emphasizing in Chico Bento character the hinterland migrant figure, punished by drought. As foundation for this research, we used theorists, such as: Albuquerque Junior (2013), who shows the social change that occurred in the male gender and Northeast, and the importance of the northeastern man to society; Oliveira (2004), who emphasizes the social conditions of the male gender in different contexts; and Freyre (1987), who addresses the importance of regional works as important aspects for the growth of regionalism. Thus, the representations here emphasized demonstrated characteristic features of the northeasterner types. With the analysis of the character Chico Bento and his submissive characterization, it was emphasized the representation of the cowboy and, mainly, of the migrant.
