Resumen:
"Shantay you stay!", "condragulations", "fishy", "realness": these are some of the
characteristic terms of RuPaul's Drag Race, a reality show based on the competition among
drag queens to receive the title of America's Next Drag Superstar and other prizes. Like any
other social group, drag queens have a slang vocabulary that is very representative and part of
the formation of their identities. However, a heteronormativity, a culture of standardization of
identities, does not agree with this manifestation of identities, which is not in accordance with
the statements by it, in order not to accept the diversity of identity, which ranges from
behaviors of sexuality to a speech of an individual. This research is an interface among
Translation Studies, Queer Studies and Cultural Studies and aims to analyze the
representation of the drag speech, paying attention to the strategies used by the subtitle
translator in dealing with such aspects, that is, how the drag language reached the final
product: whether it was maintained, substituted, smoothed or omitted. For this purpose,
subtitles with terms/expressions/slang that characterize the drag speech were created and a
parallel corpus created, in which the source text and the target text were placed side by side in
order to verify similarities and differences, and then , to verify if the speech was
heteronormativized. The research is of a bibliographic and analytical character and it has as
theoretical contribution: Louro (2004/2007), Diaz Cintas and Remael (2007), Borba (2015),
Hatim & Munday, (2004/2016), Baker (1999), among others.
