Medications are inputs that have essential importance in the context of the health system, it can significantly contribute to improve the quality of life population's. This study aimed was to characterize the drug dispemed in basic pharmacy of a small city. It was developed in the Basic Pharmacy of the city of Cuité/PB, during June to August 2014, where prescriptions were evaluated, obtaining information about medicines and more dispensed drug classes, analyzing the demographic profile according to gender and age. The results were evaluated according to the WHO/PAHO indicators. 194 prescriptions were analyzed totaling 282 prescription drugs with an average number of 1.45 drugs per prescription, being within the range shown by the WHO from 1.3 to 2.2. All drugs included in the RENAME 2014 list. The most widely used drug class was the drugs that act in the general infection systemic use with 32.98%, and 16% azithromycin as the most prescribed drug. The slightest indication medicines were the ones that operate in the genito-urinary system and sex hormones with 0.7%. The socio-demographic profile of users showed, a predominance of women (59%), an average age of 37.1 years and standard deviation (± 24.10). The results presented in this study, though relating to a single pharmacy in the municipality, demonstrates the characterization of the medicines consumption of Cuité community, because the medicines are dispensed centrally.
