During pregnancy physiological changes that result mainly of mechanical and hormonal factors are checked. And because it is the mother-fetus, involving various risks to health, the importance of maternal care is essential. Thus, the guidance is to increase energy intake and nutrient during pregnancy to maintain the maternal nutritional status, providing the necessary physiological demands of each trimester, in order to gain adequate weight to the mother and the newborn. Therefore, the objective of this study was to nutritional assessment and dietary frequency of a group of pregnant women in UBS Severino Luiz Fernandes the urban area of Baraúna -PB. The study group consisted of 20 pregnant women with a mean age of 24.4 years through weight and height measurement for classification of body mass index (BMI) and evaluation of nutritional status. We collected socio-economic data and data on food consumption, with the frequency questionnaire of food consumption through individual interviews with each pregnant woman. As the results, according to the pre-pregnancy BMI, 50% of pregnant women started eutrophic, 25% more weight, 15% obese and only 10% underweight. After analysis of current BMI, it was found that 35% were adequate, 35% were overweight, 10% are obese and 20% are underweight. Regarding the assessment of dietary factors according to data from the Food Consumption Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), it was noted that the frequency of consumption of dairy foods, fruits and vegetables and whole grains are lower than recommended. Already frequency of consumption of the group of meat, fish and eggs and legumes reached the recommended values. However, the group of fats and sugars, beyond the daily recommendations. Therefore, we see the importance nutritionist insertion in the Family Health Strategy to perform nutritional counseling during prenatal care, resulting in prevention of complications in childbirth and even for the proper development of pregnancy.
