The aesthetic standard and obesity have aroused the interest of the media. This, in turn, has direct influence on the eating habits adopted in modern life. Increasingly, it is possible to find messages urging people to follow diets aimed at weight loss. But we do not know to what extent the diets recommended by these media outlets are appropriate from a nutritional point of view. Therefore, the aim of this work is to analyze the nutritional composition of diets circulated on the Internet and in popular magazines. This is a character qualiquantitativo cross-study, where five diets were selected, three published in popular magazines and two on the internet. For each diet, we analyzed three menus. It was done the analysis of the nutritional composition from AVANUTRI® software online version. For the analysis of macronutrients, was used as a reference distribution intervals of the Institute of Medicine (IOM). To assess the adequacy of micronutrients and fiber was used to Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs). Qualitative frequency of servings for each food group was compared with the proposal of the Food Guide for the Brazilian Population (2008). Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 13.0. All diets were shown to be low calorie (Kcal 1306.88 / day 220.57 ±). Regarding macronutrients, the Dukan diet showed excess protein and carbohydrate failure; the Microbiome diet pointed carbohydrate deficiency; Tapioca dietary lipids showed insufficiency; Detox, excess carbohydrate and lipid in failure, and the diet soup excess carbohydrates. In terms of micronutrients, all diets showed inadequate apparent calcium. Furthermore, Microbiome diet C showed vitamin likely deficiency and iron, and the soup diet, likely inadequate vitamin A and iron. As the fibers, all diets showed insufficient values. As the number of servings for each food group, it was observed that three of the diets a number below the recommendation for cereals / roots / tubers and 1 diet up to 2 fruit diets indicated below and one above the recommended for vegetables / vegetables 2 presented below and the other above to legumes 1 is presented below and above the recommended 2 to milk / dairy 2 below the reference and above, the meat group / eggs made 1 below and the other above to the group all fats showed to be appropriate, since for all sugars below the recommendation. All diets were shown to be inadequate in qualitative and quantitative terms, making it clear that do not take into account individual needs and may trigger, long-term, serious risks to consumer health.
