Resumo:
The association between drugs and nutrients enables the occurrence of
interaction, allowing an increase or decrease in drug efficacy, as well as the nutrient. The phenomenon of drug-nutrient interaction / nutrient-drug may occur before or during gastrointestinal absorption, during distribution and storage in tissues, biotransformation process, or even during excretion. The objective of
this study was to conduct a review of interactions that can occur between drugs and nutrients x x nutrients drugs. A literature review was conducted in Medline, PubMed, Lilacs, Scielo and national and international committees of health, of
articles published in the last fifteen (15) years, dealing drugs, nutrients and their interactions. The following search terms (keywords and delimiters) were used in various combinations: 1) interactions; 2) Nutrient; 3) drug; 4) Patient; 5) Food. The literature review included original articles, review articles, editorials and guidelines written in English and Portuguese. It was observed that antibiotics, cardiovascular, anti-inflammatory, antiparasitic, emollient, anti-ulcer, steroids and controlled prescription drugs have some interaction with food. Vitamins and minerals are the most affected nutrients with this interaction. The drugs with food association can cause hazards such as treatment failure and malnutrition.
