Endophytic fungi constitute a vast, promising and unexplored source of potentially bioactive substances. In view of the problem of resistance of pathogens to antifungal agents already in the market, the present work consists in the antifungal evaluation of secondary metabolites produced by endophytic fungi of Anadenanthera macrocarpa (Angico-Vermelho), Endemic tree of the Caatinga often used in folk medicine. The work was developed in the laboratory structures of CDSA-UFCG, where plant collections of aerial parts, glasses and isolation of endophytic colonies were made, in addition to the induction of production of secondary metabolites by cultivation in oat medium, tests antibiograms and purification of extracts with higher inhibition activity against strains of Candida ssp. and Geotrichumsp. Among the 41 isolates obtained, 90.24% had inhibition activity for at least one of the four tested yeasts, with emphasis on the isolates Fungus Nº 9 and Fungus Nº 12. The isolates, when purified by high efficiency liquid chromatography in reverse phase (RP-HPLC), presented inhibition results with variable halos between 8mm and 13mm for the types of Candida ssp. and Geotrichumsp. In the identification study, both filamentous fungi were characterized as belonging to the genus Aspergillus. Therefore, the present study characterizes the endophytic fungi from Angico as producers of antifungal substances.
