Abstract:
Brazil is among the five largest consumer of the world's medicines, about 400 million people today suffer from some form of mental disorder, consequently, the consumption of psychotropic drugs is growing and increasing the risk of problems related to the use of these drugs. The issue of abuse undeniable that today is found in the consumption of psychotropic medications requires serious thought. It is a fact that the serious problem of self-medication, grows increasingly due to over-prescription, especially of anxiolytic and antidepressant. The objective of this study was to describe the operating characteristics of psychotropic medications dispensed in pharmacy in Santa Cruz / RN. Data were collected duraante the month of June 2015, based on questionnaires and analysis of the adequacy of revenues. The information recorded by the prescriber and supplier of the drugs were evaluated. It interviewed 90 psychotropic users in Santa Cruz / RN with prevalence of females (63.3%). The prevalent age group was adults (21-59 years), which accounted for 56.1%, followed by elderly users over 60 years (39.6%). Most were respectively dispensed psychotropic clonazepam (41.0%), alprazolam (13.2%) and bromazepam (11.1%). There were no reports of serious adverse reactions, but patients who have tried to stop treatment mentioned withdrawal. As prescriptions and the correct completion of revenue notification was found that all contained in the name, dosage and number of correctly filled boxes, but in 100% (n = 90) of the notifications did not contain the treatment time. There was the need for raising awareness among prescribers regarding rational prescribing as well as the need for guidance by the pharmacist with users.
