This study aimed to identify the levels of energy and protein and the possible interactions of these nutrients on performance of European quails reared in high temperatures . 360 mixed European quails were used , 1-21 and 21-42 days of age and verified the performance variables feed intake ( FI), weight gain ( WG) and feed conversion (FC ) were held weekly . The levels of protein and energy were used in the initial phase ( 1 to 21 days of age) were 23 , 24 and 25% PB 2900, and 3000 kcal / kg and for the final stage (22 to 42 days) levels used were 20 , 21 and 22% CP and 3050 and 3150 kcal / kg ME , respectively. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 2 x 3 factorial arrangement , two and three energy levels of crude protein with five replications and twelve birds per unit , totaling 30 experimental plots . Estimates of the levels of protein and energy were established through the models of medium and Tukey at 5% significance tests . Analyzing the average CR , GP and CA for the initial phase , it appears that the levels of protein and metabolizable energy recommended for the initial phase in the period 1-21 days of age , for the best performance was obtained with 25 % CP and 2900 in the diet . For the final phase of 22 to 42 days and is recommended 21 % CP and 3150 kcal / kg in the diet of European quail created in semiarid Paraiba.
