Resumen:
The following paper aims to analyze the lexicon in popular tales collected on the city
of Barro, in Ceará. Initially, we collected the tales, then we selected the corpus for
analysis; after that, we described the lexicon on the selected tales and elaborated a
glossary of the researched lexical units. To support the analysis, we used as basis
the Variationist Sociolinguistics of Labov (2000), which centers the study in a
heterogeneous language showing its variations, and also the sciences of the lexicon,
specifically the Lexicography and Lexicology of Biderman (2001). This is a qualitative
ethnographic research, and the consulted sources were books, magazines and
dictionaries, aiming to structure the theoretical framework that bases the analysis and
serves to build the glossary and describe the corpus; we also searched through the
memories of Barro’s storytellers the stories of which we filtered the lexicon and
assigned semantics according to context. The research instruments were
annotations and reports, together with informal conversations with the storytellers to
research the corpus. The research universe, taking into account the 03 (three)
meetings, is composed of 09 (nine) tales – of these, 04 (four) were selected and 49
(forty-nine) lexical items were extracted from them to compose a glossary. The
glossary is organized by entry term, written in bold and capital letter, followed by the
grammatical class in italics – in the cases where it wasn’t possible to identify the
class, a locution was assigned. These are lexical items that show our culture and
give us an identity. Right after the entry term and grammatical class, we put the term
(in bold and italics) applied in a sentence present in one of the tales as well as its
respective graphemes, indicating to which tale the sentence belongs. Finally, we
have the analysis of the terms on the dictionaries.
