Resumo:
Language has always been the subject of constant changes, which are proven to be
comparable to the transformations that have occurred since its inception to the present day.
Linguistic variation is a reality that needs to be studied in schools because it is a social fact
typical of humanity. In order to act as an intermediary between content and society, textbooks
are the media in which context and teaching are interwoven. In this direction, this study aims
to analyze the linguistic variation in the textbook (LD) of the 1st year of high school. We have
verified that the adopted book addresses linguistic variation, and we discuss how the subject
is worked on during the chosen book. We selected the LD of the first year of high school
Portuguese and languages 1 of William Roberto Cereja and Thereza Cochar Magalhães. We
have as bibliographical support the works of Marcos Bagno, Alberto Faraco, Mário Perini,
Helena Neves and Barbara Weedwood. This is a bibliographical research of a qualitative
nature. Therefore, on the basis of the research, we arrive at the result that is satisfactory the
treatment on the linguistic variation in the book in its contextual and conceptual aspects,
however, we identified a limitation in the proposals of activities, which we do not consider a
harmful factor, to the extent that the activities exposed, suggest proposals that aim at the
effective inclusion of students in social contexts of language use.
