Resumen:
The present work consisted in the design, development and improvement of an electrochemical system for the production of hydrogen and oxygen gases from water, for cutting and welding of metals, having as main core a bipolar electrochemical reactor where gases are generated. Peripheral elements responsible for pressure and flame modifications make the system highly safe. Hydrogen (fuel) and oxygen (oxidizing) are produced in the water electrolyser by passing electric current through it and, after being treated in other units of the system, are then burned in a torch. The product of this combustion is essentially water, thus not promoting any trace of pollution to the environment. Data were obtained from the system yield, polarization curve and effect of some organic fluids and water on the H2 / O2 flame, which allowed the evaluation of the system. The work developed, pioneering and unique in the Northeast of Brazil, is another step in the national domain of hydrogen technology and we wish to contribute to it.
