Resumo:
The textbook is a very important document to the student's formation, once it is the teaching
material chosen and is often the only material used by the teacher. This work has its main ob-
jective to analyze the treatment given by the textbook of the 6º grade Vontade de saber portu-
guês of the Elementary School to the word adjective. Therefore, it is explained about the
name adjective starting from the postulate of Jr. Câmara Jr. as well as other authors, we were
able to verify the presence of the adjective in the textbook and described how the adjective is
elaborated in the textbook selected as the corpus. In this direction, in the fundaments of
Câmara Jr. (2011), without desconsidering authors that share the same structuralist perspec-
tive. Between the collection Vontade de saber português, made of four books, the selected
corpus of our research is the textbook of the 6th grade. This work is about the documentary
research of a quantitative-qualitative nature. Based on the investigation, the conclusion is that
only 7% of the textbook activities operate with the adjective, while 93% focus on other
grammatical aspects. These 7% analyzed handle the name adjective, utilizing the criteria of
vocable classification adopted especially by Câmara Jr. (2011) embracing significate re-
sources and strategies significant to the learning.
