Uma leitura da personagem Luzia-Homem no contexto da literatura regionalista.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the composition of character Luzia-Homem, the protagonist by Ceará writer Domingos Olímpio’s novel. Therefore, the narrative is an appreciation about the migrant figure, whose context is the hinterland northeastern punished for the drought occurred between 1877 and 1878 and its respective deployments as well as its relation with all the other characters from the work. The research development happened based on this search to understand the physical and social setting that involves the protagonist as well as the individual conflicts in the course of action. Since the title, the work Luzia-Homem presents ambiguities in the composition of the binomial. However, during the plot, it was observed that Luzia acquires masculine aspects due to exercise of her force. That element will be deconstructed when her physical and psychical constitution as well as her personality and sociocultural formation show her social and human condition. Therefore, this theoretical and bibliographic research bases itself with the analysis of contributions by Moisés (2001), Almeida (1999), Candido (2009), Miguel-Pereira (1973), Coutinho (2004) among others authors that add to the comprehension about the emerged topics in the novel. In this context, although her physical force, the character Luzia-Homem represents the limits of female conditions, considering her desires and suffering. Then her tragic end represents the fight by a true hero.
