The hemogram is used to support the diagnosis and monitoring of various diseases and also evaluates the morphological quantitative and qualitative aspect of blood cells. For the hemogram implementation there are several types of automatic counters that differ in cell counting system and the ability to evaluate the different types of hematological parameters. A literature review in order to verify the impacts generated by automation in the hematology and also observe and compare the similarities and differences between the methodologies used in the machines was carried out. The analysis showed as major counter methodologies impedance spectroscopy and flow cytometry for analysis of cell morphology. As reference counters were chosen five, Beckman Coulter, Sysmex (XE 2100 models, XE 2110), Abbott (Cell Dyn Sapphire model), ABX (Pentra DX 120 model) and Bayer (Advia 120 model). For these was made a comparison between the methodologies and corresponding parameters evaluated three cell lines red blood cells, leukocytes and platelets. Automation is essential in hematology laboratories, are increasingly technologically advanced and allows the release of more precise and accurate results in a shorter time interval, bringing confidence and credibility to professionals who use this service.
