Abstract:
The present work aimed to encourage the geographic studies in the final series of the
Elementary School in the Municipal School of Primary Education Maria Marques de Assis in
the city of São Domingos – PB, through the knowledge and appreciation of the cord literature
that favor the students’ knowledge about the uses and social functions and cultural aspects of
the Northeastern people. The cord comprises an oral discursive genre, narrated and / or sung,
accompanied by a viola, and written, printed in booklets, for the purpose of informing,
entertaining, telling facts, teaching, honoring, among others. The study evidenced the
importance of cord poetry, as well as its conception and historical context. An investigation
was made on the pedagogical practice of the Geography teacher, more specifically, regarding
the use of cord literature, as an important resource for this purpose. It was also tried to identify
the forms of insertion of the cords as pedagogical resource for the learning in the classroom in
the final series of Elementary School. The methodology used was the bibliographic research,
which subsidized us to obtain a better understanding of the subject. It is concluded that the
string disposed as a resource in Geography classes, favors a dynamic and creative teaching,
whose purpose is to contribute to the development of subjects in formation, thus effecting the
learning process.
