Abstract:
In study of Brazilian literature, we face with works written by established writers who them
depict facts about the reality. Although those works have been written in past centuries, it was
realized that there is a representation of real context in them, and it is near to the human
experience in nowadays. Then, by mentioning the social problems, the country man life and
the constant search for the freedom of expression, it is indispensable to remember The fifteen,
the debut novel by the writer Raquel de Queiroz. In that work, in addition to the recurring
themes about the drought, it shows the relevant questions about social and political context.
However, the main character development is another instigating theme excel itself in the
narrative, in addition its transgressing actions to the dominant patterns which are emphasized
as for its courage to contest the rules that are imposed to the woman as the confinement of its
rights, a reason that makes us think and search the answers to the problems caused by the
novel. The study observed in this research is an analysis about Conceição, the character of the
novel by the mentioned writer above. She has the profile of young woman, a teacher who
searches and gains space in a society that determines the feminist position in that time. For the
production of this study in focus on that character, her autonomy while protagonist from
referred novel that propitiates herself the decision power was considered as the focus of
analysis, period that the woman has not yet opportunity to express her thought nor to exercise
the freedom of choice about her own life. In support to our discussion concerning to the study,
it was used the following authors: Almeida (1999), Barbosa (1999), Bosi (2006), Candido
(2010), Castello (2004), Coelho (1989/1993), Coutinho (2004), Lucas (1987), Hollanda
(2005), Moises (2007), Pinto (1990), Queiroz (2004), among others which were the basis for
analysis and development of our work in that field of study.
