Résumé:
The study object of this research is the development of the child's language. Although many
teachers recognize the existence of the oral and written language, it can be noticed at daily
school life that most still do not value and do not develop the language as it should do. This
paper seeks to achieve the following goals: to analyze how is the development of oral and
written language in 4-6 years old children; to reflect about what language is and their roles in
the school's social context; to identify what are the similarities and differences between oral
and written language; to identify the various ways to work these languages in teaching
practice. The research is based on Marcuschi (2010), Simões (2006), Dias (2001), among
others. This is an exploratory type research. The approach is qualitative and data collection
instrument was a semi-structured interview. The study subjects were three teachers, one from
kindegarten education and two from elementary school . The field research was a public
school in Joca Claudino - PB. The study enabled us to understand that language is an
important and necessary factor for the proper development of human skills and has itself
changes in its social context, regarded as emancipatory elements and expressions of a group.
We conclude that language development starts by a spontaneous process, but it can and
should be enhanced by the pedagogical practices in order that the student can climb new
levels of knowledge.
