Résumé:
Masculinity is a relevant subject in society. However, just a little is known about its
construction context and the existing social impositions. In this work we reflect on the
theories that talks about masculinity, standing in the hegemonic profile. Our objective
is to present that there are masculinity patterns and to emphasize the existence of a
masculine hegemonic profile, for that we use the masculine theme that is inserted in
the work A Fome (2011), of the author Rodolfo Teófilo, in order to understand how
these masculine patterns are presented in the literature. The context of the work
analyzed is a severe drought period in Ceará. For this reason, we initially focused on
the question of the construction of the Northeast and how it is represented in
literature, and then we talk with the theories that deal with masculinity from its
general context to the hegemonic masculine profile of Northeastern man, culminating
in the analysis of the work A Fome, with respect to the antagonistic characters
Manuel de Freitas and Simeão de Arruda. This research is of a bibliographic nature,
with an analytical and descriptive character, being qualitative. This work has as
theoretical contribution Connell (1995), Albuquerque Júnior (2011), Almeida (1996),
among others. As a result of the analysis, we understand that there are masculinities.
Thus, the author Rodolfo Teófilo constructs the characters through distinct
masculinities, in which Manuel de Freitas is valued for trying to reach the hegemonic
profile, showing that this is the correct model; while the masculinity of Simeon of
Arruda is devalued; because according to the author, he does not care about his
conduct.
