Abstract:
Studies on gender criticism began with the consolidation of the feminist movement in the
second half of the last century, and began to be implanted in academia as a method of analysis
in the 1980s. Within this context, the work of Guimarães Rosa presents a significant corpus
for analysis within this line of research, since the author brings up generally marginalized
characters, among which the female characters stand out. Thus, in the desire to contribute to
the growth of criticism, the present work established as its main objective to understand how
the construction and representation of the characters Nhorinhá, Otacília and Diadorim occurs
in the novel Grande sertão: Veredas (2015), by author João Guimarães Rosa. We aim to
understand how these characters are represented in the context of the novel, starting from the
assumptions established by the society of the concept of "woman" and how such
representation is characterized in the theory listed for the research. We then adopted an
exploratory methodology of a basic nature, whose procedure is bibliographic, since the
construction of the research is based on the following theoretical framework: Showalter
(1994), Netherlands (1992; 1994), Costa and Bruschini (1992). ), Saffioti (1992), Machado
(1992), among others, and at the end, we find that the characters of the Riobaldian love triad
have distinct profiles, but together play a key role in the outcome of the protagonist character,
Riobaldo.
