Desempenho, características de carcaça e comportamento ingestivo de cordeiros alimentados com dietas contendo óleo de buriti (Mauritia flexuosa L.).

Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of different levels of buriti oil on intake and nutrient digestibility, performance, ingestive behavior and carcass characteristics of Santa Inês crossbred lambs. Sixty-five lambs with mean body weight (BW) of 28.0 ± 0.5 kg were used in an entirely 5-treatment design (0,0, 1,2, 2,4, 3,6 and 4,8% inclusion of buriti oil in the total dry matter (DM) of the diet), five replicates to evaluate the intake and digestibility and eight replicates for the other evaluations (animals). The complete diets had a 40:60 roughage:concentrate ratio. The inclusion of buriti oil promoted a linear decrease in the intake (g/day) of DM, EE and NFC (P<0.05). There was a linear reduction of the digestibility coefficient (g / kg) of DM, NDFap and EE (P<0.05). There was no inclusion effect of buriti oil for feeding time, rumination and idling time (min/day) (P>0.05). For the parameters related to chewing, only the amount (g of DM/boli) and ruminated boli (n°/ day) presented a linear decrease (P<0.05). The ingestion efficiency of MS and NDF decreased quadratic (P<0.05). The rumination efficiency of DM and NDF presented a linear reduction (P <0.05). There were no linear or quadratic effects on the final body gain, total weight gain and average daily gain with the inclusion of buriti oil in the diet (P>0.05). The dry matter intake (kg/day) promoted a quadratic decrease (P<0.0001), however, food efficiency increased linearly (P<0.05). For the carcass characteristics, the inclusion of buriti oil linearly decreased hot carcass weight, hot carcass yield, cold carcass weight and cold carcass yield (P<0.05). Therefore, diets with different levels of buriti oil affected the intake, digestibility and ingestive behavior of the animals, however, they do not affect the performance, with improvement in food efficiency, recommending the level of 3.6% for sheep in confined.
