Résumé:
This paper analyzes the process of constitution of a new cultural identity in the Paraiban city
of Poço de José de Moura, focusing on the activities of the local cultural groups "Reisado Zé
de Moura" and "Pisada do Sertão ". At the beginning of the 21st century, these groups were
fundamental for the re-signification of the concept of local culture, consolidating new identity
references for the inhabitants of the small town of Poço de José de Moura. Due to the great
cultural potential of the city, each local citizen brings with it a certain appreciation for the
artistic manifestations that are there, seeing in them the representation of the values and
history of that community. The problem is that this was not always the case. The population
of that city lived for years in the shadow of the image of the mystic who founded it, Jose
Alves de Moura, setting its identity from the religious references provided by this personage.
Other characters and other historical and cultural elements only became prominent later, when
there was the creation of cultural groups that invented a set of folkloric manifestations for the
city. In this way, this work intends to analyze the performance of the groups "Reisado Zé de
Moura" and "Pisada do Sertão", which, at the turn of the 21st century, created a new cultural
identity for the city of Poço de José de Moura.
