Children's Literature Translation is an unexplored field in the academy in Brazil
although much of the production for children circulating in Brazil are translations. Over
the years the translations in Brazil receive various treatments and were made both by
professional translators as by renowned writers of national literature. Based on the
assumptions of the theory of polysystem of Even-Zohar (1990) who maintain a direct
relationship with the literary studies, I observed all cultural systems of a language are
plural and the underlying branches compose interconnected systems. But, there is
always, among the various systems, those plants with the most prestigious and
peripherals. This is the case of children's literature, translations and mass literature.
Therefore, the object of this study is according to the theory mentioned what is in the
periphery of the literary system, the Brazilian translation of the children's book Harry
Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the first volume of the series by British author JK
Rowling. In this study, I observed which strategies were used in the translation process
for the Brazilian book of Portuguese as Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone,
translated by Lya Wyler and how such choices may involve the construction of the
translation narrator voice category proposed by Emer O'Sullivan (2005). The study of
this object will be cropping about the narrator's voice, more specifically in episodes in
which present relations of the protagonist character, Harry Potter, with his aunt and
uncle and how they relate to the protagonist through the descriptions. I will analyze how
in the texts, textual composition evidences or not how the character is treated by his
aunt and uncle and how he sees himself into his reality.
