Resumen:
The Caatinga it is the only naturally brazilian ecosystem, whose boundaries are totally restricted by the national territory. Despite of your welth, in terms of biodiversity, the Caatinga is among the brazilian morphoclimatic fields that suffered most from human intervention. In this context, the present study aimed to develop, by the project entitled “Rethinking the caatinga biome”, activities related to sustainable development and to the environmental education, in order to test the method of education effectiveness for the conservation of the caatinga, through pedagogical activities in the Biology teaching, with high school students from the school E. E. E. M. Orlando Venâncio dos Santos, city of Cuité-PB. The study was developed in the school cited above, having the main focus the high school 2nd grade class (n=29). The activities were divided into steps, which included questionnaires application for the data gathering, theoretical and practical classes, like expository-dialogued classes, educational trail, production of native seedlings and, distribution of themselves in class actions involving the local population. Among the participants, 59% (n=17) of the students are female and 41% (n=12) were male students, with ages ranging from 15 to 16 years old. The results shows that the study of the Caatinga, the educational trail, the production of seedlings and the distribution of themselves to the local community carried out by the students follows a philosophy, because it works in a multidisciplinary way in the search for an inclusive education and a civic learning. Therefore, it can be concluded that, through this experience of educational activities, the students became aware of the desertification process that the biome is facing, as well as learned about the difficulties regarding the preservation, conservation and maintenance of its vegetation.
