Resumo:
When we read a classic we always have something new to discover and learn, it is a work that
always surprises us with new things and therefore it is eternalized through its study,
investigation and research on its past, its time of birth. Through epic poetry the Greek were
able to make their mark on history, bringing with them their ideals and teachings, which
served for later generations. Through this finding, this work aims to analyze how the epic,
with special attention to "Os Lusíadas" of Camões, is approached in the textbook of high
school. The research is bibliographical and is analytically based on works by JAEGER
(1994), CALVINO (1993) among others to clarify about the epic genre and to understand its
importance for the studies. Although it is present in textbooks, the study of the epic genre is
still scarcely exposed, there is no contextualization about the genre, it is only possible to note
some excerpts that exemplify it, without going into the content, leaving out several important
points to be studied. The study must go beyond the textbook, so that the student understands
even more and feels instigated to know and learn about the genre, the work intends to present
proposals to work this content in the classroom.
