Resumo:
Considering that in the context of globalization English language teaching is increasingly
focused on international communication, especially at the beginning of the 21st century, we
believe that the teaching of phonology must be essential in the classes of that language, so that
the process of production of meaning by their learners/users might be more effective, as they
will tend to have less interference from their native language. However, to make it possible,
activities involving pronunciation should be directly linked to other linguistic areas and the
teacher must be confident in both native and foreign languages. Based on that, this research is
supported by authors such as Celce-Murcia (2007), O'connor (2005) Roach (1998), Crystal
(2003), Cruttenden (2014), as well as the official documents provided by the Brazilian
Government, Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais (PCNs) and the Base Nacional Comum
Curricular (BNCC). Thus, this bibliographic research presents how phonology dialogues with
different areas of the English language, emphasizing the intersection of its sound system with
activities involving listening skill, spelling, and grammar. In particular, we hope to contribute
to the English teaching process in the region attended by the Centro de Formação de
Professores CFP/UFCG.
