Resumo:
This work has as main objective to propose a reflection on the studies of the New
Literacies (STREET, 1984; LANKSHEAR; KNOBEL, 2003) showing its relevance to
the teaching and learning of the English Language. To this end, it presents recent
theories as theoretical basis for possible significant changes in the teaching of
English as a foreign language (TEFL). In this sense, we construct a historical
description of the teaching and learning of English Language, to present future
perspectives for working with foreign languages in the classroom. Thus, the
theoretical methodological conception adopted by the New Literacies for foreign
language teaching allows us use technologies once seen as inappropriate to
increase knowledge. Thus, we developed the proposal of the research through the
use of the mobile device, using the Hello Talk application as a teaching and learning
tool, because with this, feature students are able to interact with speakers from
around the world at any time and space, expanding the knowledge in several areas,
as well as practicing the language continuously in a pleasurable and productive way.
That said, the methodology used in the research is qualitative, interpretive, with a
bibliographical survey, followed by application in the proposal. We hope with this
research contributes with researchers and professionals of the English Language to
expand their knowledge and notions about the current study to introduce such
pedagogical practices in foreign language classes.
