Résumé:
The aim of this paper was to analyze the causes of truancy in High School from Escola Estadual de Ensino Fundamental e Médio Professor José Gonçalves de Queiroz, in Sumé City – PB, from 2008 to 2010. The motivations for the studies from the fact noted that the students disappearedfrom classrooms, without question or interventions. When entering the school'seducational support, with access to documents - day of class, individual sheets, newsletters, final result, the school census - was noticeable numbers, and there was a concern, to see that something was repetitive, but that nothing was done to reverse the situation. For this research, was used as a way qualitative research of methodology, focusing the investigative work on Study Case, from the field diary, participant observation, documentary analysis and interviews.Was selected as target students and teachers of this school. The objectives were to identify the dropout rate in 2008, 2009 and 2010; to point out the possible causes of truancy; to check how many students returned to school in 2011; to identify and analyze the strategies and educational policies that the school has been developing in facing the problem of truancy. As a result, the survey indicated a high dropout rate, which according to students and teachers is a reflection of disinterest, indifference, and need to work, early pregnancy, lack of encouragement from the students family. Been shown that few students returned the following year (2011) and the school continues working without strategies to reverse this problem.
