Due to its importance for life and for new technologies, issues of Genetics and its areas have been very currently studied in high school and in higher education. However, there is the difficulty of students in understanding these contents. A strategy to contribute to the elucidation of the causes involved in low academic performance of students in the discipline is to gather information on the training of biology teachers in high school, her time teaching experience, as they teach the contents and if this basic training that is offered providing support for the continuity of university studies. Therefore, the objective of this study was to perform surveys on the training of biology teachers and how content is taught in high school, in Paraiba Curimataú and Seridó cities. The work involved a review and bibliographic research on the training and the Genetics teaching in high school and a field study of the explanatory-descriptive and comparative, qualitative and quantitative, involving 15 teachers from five cities of private and public schools that teach Genetics issues in high school in Curimataú and Seridó Paraíba regions. It was adopted as a method the personal interview, face to face, using questionnaires designed in this work. Based on respondents' answers, the teachers who work in high school in Biology, teaching content related to genetics in cities in Curimataú and Seridó Paraiba regions, are formed or are forming in their teaching area. Most teachers responded that only uses the internet to catch up on regarding genetic issues and do not participate in scientific events, which is unfortunate. The didactic book for high school and the ENEM program were the main sources cited by teachers to prepare their lessons for the Genetics teaching. The little time in high school classroom represented a major difficulty to teach current genetic contents. Therefore, due to its importance, the time to minister Genetics contents in high school should be increased.
