Abstract

The present monograph has as main objective to analyze the teaching of geography in the years initials of elementary school I, 1st and 2nd year specifically, from the city of São João do Rio Peixe-PB, based on the idea of ​​geographic literacy, with emphasis on teaching the category place. Geography teaching has been important since the early years of school education, through it, the student will develop the ability to understand and understand space, thus being able to act critically and engaged within its context. To reach the goal proposed here the methodology was based on bibliographical research for theoretical discussion then, seeking to elucidate the discussion, a qualitative research through questionnaires applied to teachers of the referred phase of teaching, seeking through their speech to analyze the teaching of geography in the years elementary school I, in the city of São João do Rio do Peixe-PB. The work presented highlights the importance of geographical literacy in the early years, addressing their respective contributions to the understanding of the individual in the environment coexists, relating to the construction of the place concept, justifying the importance of same. Therefore, he verified through the research, the importance of the teaching of geography in the Thus, geographical literacy in the early years is students will be able to build meaningful learning from your place of coexistence.
