This study aimed to investigate and analyze the prior knowledge of students as well as the methodologies developed in the classroom with pedagogical practice in science education. It is an investigative research with qualitative approach that was carried out in six classes of 7th, 8th and 9th years of elementary school of the Ana Maria Gomes School, Picuí City, Brazil. An initial questionnaire was applied to the total of 134 students and it was reapplied after methodologies worked with 132 students. The results obtained indicate that alternative methodologies are important tools to the teaching and learning process, as the contents are worked dynamic, enjoyable and stimulating way, which may favor a significant learning for a greater number of students compared to the exclusivity traditional mode of teach. It was also noted an increase in interest in Science studies, and more appropriate ownership of issues in this area. Students reported orally that they felt more motivated and the classes become more profitable, showing therefore the need to use different teaching methods in science education.
