Résumé:
Practical classes in Biological Sciences are important for teaching-learning process, especially due to the the topics covered by this area of knowledge which are updated frequently. However, even though the results of a trial class are consistent, whether carried out in the classroom or laboratory, there are still difficulties relating to the implementation and realization of this teaching mode. This study aimed to analyze the understanding of students of the course of Degree in Biological Sciences of the Federal University of Campina Grande about the importance of practical classes in higher education and verify how the use of the same influences the performance of students. For this goal, there was the application of a structured questionnaire to students of several levels of the course. It was observed that the students consider important experimental classes in higher education, although its functions were directly related to evidence or consolidation theories. Students also indicated the need for more frequent conduct of these classes. It should be considered that this kind of class has an investigative character, that is, that the trial results are interpreted and explained by the theory that, in turn, would come at a later time.
