Résumé:
The use of antibiotics has become increasingly necessary during the years, mainly by the fact that infectious diseases are constantly sweeping the world. However, associated with this need has emerged a world problem of concern: antimicrobial resistance. This phenomenon occurs when microorganisms are able to grow in the presence of antibiotic concentrations at the therapeutic doses. This study aimed to carry out a review of antimicrobial resistance and new therapeutic alternatives to face this problem. We conducted a literature review in national and international academic and scientific databases using the following search terms (descriptors) were used in various combinations: 1) microbial resistance; 2) antimicrobial; 3) resistant strains; 4) new antimicrobial drugs; 5) therapeutic alternatives. According to the data collected, it was observed that the misuse and the indiscriminate use of antibiotics are the main allies for the acquisition of resistance by microorganisms and which increasingly has been necessary studies and research that are discovered ways to overcome these mechanisms. The different types of resistance mechanisms and ways to overcome them are shown at work as well as some drugs developed to overcome this resistance.
