Résumé:
The objective of this work is to propose an activity with music that can be used as a motivational tool in English language teaching and learning. Taking into account the challenges present in foreign language classes in Brazilian public schools, it is of great importance that teachers plan their classes directed toward the learner, elaborating classes with the support of playful activities, for that the students feel more motivated in front of a teaching that often ends up being devalued because it is not very effective in schools, but it is possible to relate language and genre both working for skills development and student acquisition. We aim to propose practical activities with songs that serve as motivational tools for English language learning, to show the challenges in foreign language teaching and to understand how motivation works in the students' lives. The research of bibliographic has as theoretical contribution the opinions and concepts of authors as Brown (2001), Skinner (1972), Gardner (1985), Silva (2006), Pereira (2007), Leffa (1988), Larsen- Freeman (1986/1993), among others. The song chosen was Imagine (1971) by the singer and composer John Lennon, former member of the Beatles band. Therefore, an activity with the song Imagine will be proposed, containing five questions that are capable of practicing the student's language skills, being worked on a communicative approach, working with grammatical and discursive questions for that students can develop a collective and reflective knowledge in a sociointeractionist context.
