Herbal medicines are called those who were obtained through the exclusive use of raw materials active plant, thus eliminating those who have in their manufacturing active isolated, synthetic or natural, or the junction of these substances with plant extracts of this denomination. For all medicines, including herbal medicines, quality control is essential since serious errors may arise regarding the marketing of poor quality products or even tampered with. The Passiflora alata and Passiflora incarnata species are to be used for the preparation of herbal-based passion, official described species in the Brazilian and European Pharmacopoeia. The species of Passiflora are widely used in folk medicine in different directions. The most common use is as a sedative and tranquilizing and is common to several countries. Observing the great demand for natural medicines made from passionfruit, this study was meant to examine the quality of herbal products made from this plant, being used drugs on a daily basis by many patients, mainly because they are low cost, easy access and are seen by the population as drugs that "do no harm". Two samples, coded as AS (sample S) and AR (sample R) were investigated. The data were analyzed to evaluate the labeling, average test weight, hardness, disintegration time, water and ash determination and identification of flavonoids. The results of this work in the categories of evaluation of labeling and disintegration, the samples proved to regular analyzed items; In relation to the average weight test, sample S (pills) found himself out of specification, with six points outside acceptable limits. At the same sample had acceptable hardness values, however, the variation was high (RSD = 30.3%) also showed unevenness in the determination of water and ash content. Regarding the presence of flavonoids, the samples showed positive reactions against the identity test, however, the sample S, with less intensity. With this you can conclude that R sample showed better results, as assessed by the quality tests.
