Being a major concern of the World Health Organization , the TBI is the major determinant of mortality and sequelae in multiple trauma victims . These losses are not limited to reduced worker productivity or injuries that affect the lives of these victims . The increased costs for health care and the burden on public finances is also an important factor . Objectives : Demonstrate the epidemiological profile of victims of motorcycle accidents , combining the severity of traumatic brain injury admitted to the Joint Health Unit , the city of Jacana , Rio Grande do Norte . Methodology : This was an observational , descriptive and retrospective study based on secondary data and observation techniques with a quantitative approach . The universe of this study consisted of 124 victims of motorcycle accidents in the period April 2010 to January 2014. Data were collected through the EXCEL software , which were presented in graphs and discussed in the light of literature . Analysis and Results: The results show that there was a predominance of males 102 ( 82 % ) , ranging in age from 21 to 30 years 39 ( 31.45% ) . The predominant shift was the evening with 53 ( 42.74 % ) , followed in the afternoon with 49 ( 39.51 % ) victims and finally the morning with 22 ( 17.74 % ) victims . As for the day of the week indicated a high number of victims from the weekend , especially on Fridays 10 ( 8.07 % ) victims , with the highest concentration Saturdays 23 ( 18.54% ) victims and especially on Sundays 46 ( 37.10% ) . The survey also showed that of the 124 victims affected by motorcycle accidents 75 ( 60.48 % ) had clinical signs of intoxication. Of those 124 victims , 16 ( 13 % ) were under the influence of illicit drugs . However , the major concern was about 124 victims , 119 ( 96 % ) did not wear a helmet at the time of the accident , 119 ( 96 % ) were not enabled. With respect to other hazards beyond TCE , stood out was the bruises with 109 ( 87.90 % ) , common throughout body surface area ; fractures with 53 ( 42.75 % ) ; dislocation 39 ( 31.45% ) victims ; the presence of hematoma in 19 ( 15.32% ) victims ; a very important factor was the presence of the sinking of the skull with a score of 15 ( 12.10% ) victims ; and hemorrhages 13 ( 10.48% ); and with low scores , even though the motorcycle accidents , highlighted a score to abrasion and bulging with 05 ( 4.03 % ) with burn victims and 04 ( 3.22 % ) . As for the body regions most affected were followed by the upper limbs 78 (62.10 % ) victims ; lower limbs with 71 ( 57.25 % ) victims ; the thorax with 11 ( 8.87 % ) and abdomen victims attended by 03 ( 2.41 % ) victims . According to the Glasgow Coma Scale ( GCS ) score mild in 62 ( 50 % ) of the victims , moderate in 38 ( 31 % ) and a serious score in 24 ( 19 % ) victims . Of these , 90 ( 73 % ) were transferred to other units , 23 ( 18 % ) were under observation , 06 ( 5 % ) were discharged and 05 ( 4 % ) died . Final Thoughts : It is concluded that for drivers victims of motorcycle accidents in the municipality of Jacana -RN , sex , age , day of week , use of alcohol and other illicit drugs and non- helmet use , point to the risk accidents , and greater severity of temporary or permanent injuries as more serious traumas .
