Resumen:
The present study brings a reflection on the use of the didactic book, specifically, in the
classes of Geography in the Municipal Network. Research on the textbook has been
developed to understand its effectiveness in the teaching and learning process. The textbook
brings in its contents concepts and information capable of leading the teacher of Geography in
the process of teaching and learning in the classroom, taking into account the reality that
surrounds the life of learners. The present research arose from the experiences lived in the
supervised internships at E.M.E.F Maria do Carmo Pedrosa Mendes in the Municipal
Network of the City of Nazarezinho-PB. The research sought to understand how the textbook
of Geography of the 6th year of the initial years of Elementary School contributes to the
teaching of this discipline, based on the methodology used in the classroom by the teacher.
For the development of the research, bibliographical sources were searched by Pontuschka
(2013), Bittencourt (1993) and Oliveira (1984), analyzing the contents of the 6th grade
textbook for an understanding of its contents. As data collection, it was necessary to prepare
and application a questionnaire to the Geography teacher of the 6th year to obtain information
about the use of the textbook in her classes. With the data collected and analyzed we noticed
that the textbook is still present in the classroom as the main and most used resource,
however, we conclude that the traditional teaching still persists in schools even in the face of
so much technology and varied methodological resources. The research began in October
2017, extending until May 2018.
