Resumen:
The present study aimed to evaluate the anatomical knowledge regarding the administration of existing drugs by intramuscular route between students of higher and technical level of nursing. Consisted of a cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, which evaluated 22 upper-level students enrolled in eighth period of the course Bachelor of Nursing UFCG, campus Cuité and 22 students in the final year of the Technical College of Nursing, all students had been previously approved in the disciplines of human anatomy, semiology and semiotics. Because it is a research involving human subjects, attended Resolution 466/12 of the National Health Council, being approved by the Ethics Committee HUAC under CAAE No.: 31819214.9.0000.5182. As an instrument of data collection used a questionnaire that included demographic data and questions about anatomical, and pharmacological aspects semiotécnicos to meet the research objectives. From the results it seized that participants were predominantly young women. Anatomical aspects, the students of higher level and technical level showed a lack of knowledge, especially technical nursing students who disregarded the importance of muscle thickness (63.6%). The semiotécnicos aspects were better understood by students at tertiary level, although they are unaware both theory (54.5%) as the technique of delineation (86.4%) of ventrogluteal region. On the pharmacological aspects, 45.5% of nursing students and 75% of students did not consider possible technical application of viscous and irritant medications intramuscularly. Thus, it is noticed that the students of higher level despite having a higher knowledge that technical students, still have large gaps in anatomical knowledge related to drug administration intramuscularly.
