Resumo:
The Intensive Therapy Unit is designed to attend critical patients who need continuing care, however, the demand for beds for critically ill patients in Brazil is much greater than the supply, which makes the care of complex patients increasingly distant of humanized care and excellence. The study had as main objective to know the experience of patients who were hospitalized in the Intensive Therapy Unit. It is an integrative literature review, where 350,677 articles related to the descriptors were found; after the filters, 578 articles were analyzed and at the end of the analysis was possible to obtain a sample of four articles of these descriptors to compose literary research. In order to provide a better understanding about the bibliography that supported the production of this study, boards were elaborated in order to demonstrate some items evaluated such as identification of authors, subject area, title and year of publication; goals of the articles used, types of study and summarized in passages quoted results. Then these elements were organized in frames and discussed. Therefore, according to the articles that were analyzed, we found that patients initially had a vision of the sector due terminally comments and experiences of close relatives. One factor that prevailed in previous articles was the anguish and fear of death, fear of the unknown and what might happen to the patient. After admission, the majority pointed the sector's favorable environment to treatment, with a team of qualified, caring professional and quality care. Thus, it was possible to identify that nursing is directly linked to the care in the ITU setting, where nurses should use the technical care along the humanized care process so that the real needs of patients are identified by treating them holistically.
