The digital relays available in the market generally use phasor estimation techniques and logical protection not detailed in their manuals. This information is important to the protection engineer can previously identify possible performance relays failure, taking the
measures correction needed. In this work, a real time simulation was used to compare the performance of a commercial relay with relay models using recent techniques of estimation phasor and logical protection. A simpli ed electrical system, with actual data from
equipment of Chesf, was represented in the simulator for studies of faults in transmission lines, when algorithms are compared both between themselves and shaped to Relay available. The results show that algorithms implementations in the simulator obtained expected results, and can also be used for other tests phasor estimation algorithms. Additionally, comparison of the algorithms with the relay led to a greater knowledge of its internal operations, contributing to analysis occurrences in the electrical system failures, relay misoperation and better use in model tests of such equipment.
