Resumen:
The present research consists of a diachronic study of the Portuguese language presenting
through the textual genre comics, a way of inserting the historical context of the language in
the classroom. Thus, we have as a general objective: to contribute to approaches to the history
of the Portuguese language in elementary school through comics. To reach this goal, we draw
the following specific objectives: to study the main characteristics of classical Latin, Vulgar
Latin and Galician-Portuguese; to analyze the main political and linguistic factors that
contributed to the formation of the Portuguese of Portugal and the Brazilian Portuguese; and
to elaborate a comic book about the historical context of the Portuguese language, directed to
Elementary School. For the accomplishment of this research, we are based, mainly, on the
theoretical conceptions of Coutinho (2011), Assis (2011), Teyssier (2001), among others that
approach the subject. As to the methodological nature of the work, the research can be
considered bibliographical, by making use of theories already proven and debated by scholars
of the area. This work has as a final result the comics - The History of the Portuguese
Language, directed to Elementary School, aiming to make possible a didactic tool for the
teaching of the history of the Portuguese language.
