Resumo:
This work has as main objective to present a proposal of a didactic sequence for the English
language classes for the 6th year of elementary school. Taking into account the English
language classes in schools, we believe that the teaching of this foreign language still a bit
restricted, coming to be seen as a teaching of question and answer. We believe that English
can be easier to understand when inserted into the lives of students in a more playful and
interactive way, so more could be explored more the knowledge and creativity of children. In
this sense, literature, especially the children‟s literature, because it has an importance in the
life of children and allows to explore the children‟s imagination, can make students learning
having fun. Thus, we chose one of the great classics of British literature, Matilda (1988) by
Roald Dahl. Because it is an attractive story and allows the use of several activities that,
contemplate both learning vocabulary, as well as knowledge of other textual genres. Our
bibliographical and proposal research was supported by several researchers in the areas of
teaching and literature, among them are Moon (2001), Cameron (2002), Lazar (2004),
Abramovich (1994) and Aebersold and Field (1997) . We hope with this research contributes
to the English – speaking educational field, inspiring and encouraging teachers with our work
proposal.
