Abstract:
Although the gestation is a physiological phenomenon that, in most cases, occurs without
major complications, it requires a series of special care. This care is provided by health
professionals through prenatal assistance. Its aim is to take care and accompany the woman
through the pregnancy course ensuring maternal welfare and the birth of a healthy child. The
present study aimed: to analyze the prenatal assistance through the vision of pregnant women
from a health basic unit, to identify the existence of obstacles to the realization of prenatal by
the users of the health basic unit, to characterize the social-demographic and gestational
profile of the participants and apprehend how the pregnant women understand the prenatal
and its importance. This study’s about an exploratory-descriptive research with a qualitative
approach. Ten pregnant women who received prenatal assistance at the Unidade São José/
Posto de Atendimento Primário à Saúde (PAPS) of county Cajazeiras-PB participated in this
research. The ethical aspects were obeyed according to the Resolution 196/96 in researches
involving human beings. As to the results of this study it was verified that the women were in
proper age of pregnancy, most of them were married (70%), having a considerable scholarity
degree, living with a monthly family income of 1 to 2 minimum wages (60%), and with
diverse occupations such as: housemaid, student and others. The following obstretic data were
verified: 50% were pregnant for the first time, 50% were pregnant for the third time. Two
were in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy and of these one had done only three prenatal visits,
and already thirty-seven weeks gestation. After completion of this research, it was found that
in the opinion of the women, the prenatal visit as the human part is good, leaving short in
other aspects, such as the lack of modern instruments and efficient procedures for the proper
monitored gestational. In addition to the survey data with great importance in the realization
of the conditions of the health unit chosen, the women acknowledged the importance of
prenatal care in the health and safety of your baby, the relevance of the information passed to
them during the consultation with the nurse and how to clarify your doubts further strengthens
their confidence in professional nursing as well as the entire healthcare team.
