Water is an essential resource for the survival of the human species and has direct influence on the health of human beings, therefore, must be of good quality to be consumed. The growth and development of cities brought as a consequence a very large loss of quality of the same, either by improper use or lack of preservation. Groundwater at the time in which we live have come up constituting an important alternative for the supply of urban and rural communities, agricultural use, industrial, and household consumption. The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of water from underground wells located in the rural municipality of Picuí- PB. To perform this work, samples from seven wells were collected for the realization of physicochemical analyzes. The parameters analyzed were: pH, turbidity, total alkalinity, hardness, conductivity, chlorides and total dissolved solids. The results obtained for the waters of the wells analyzed in general do not meet the standards set by the Ministry of Health, Ordinance No. 2914/2011, they presented a great variability for measurements of pH, total dissolved solids, hardness, alkalinity, turbidity, conductivity and chloride. For pH measurements of seven wells analyzed, three showed values outside the set. As for the well P.02 turbidity was equal to 5.67 NTU. The concentration of chloride and hardness for the P.01 was 256.01 mg L-1 and 636.57 mg L-1 respectively, which is above the maximum allowed. The alkalinity of samples showed values between 4.0 and 11.2 mg l-1. For measurements of total dissolved solids 5 wells had values above the established. So the waters of the wells are analyzed in most of the evaluated parameters outside the standard of acceptability for human consumption.
