Résumé:
In the case to health professionals, the greater risk is of accidents with contaminated
Needlestick in this context, members of the nursing staff as the most prone to these risks since
they provide direct assistance patient, accounting for 60% of health. This work aimed to
investigate the Occupational Accidents with needlestick by the nursing staff from a hospital in
Seridó Norte Riograndense. As methodological proposal, the work presented as a cross-
sectional exploratory and descriptive, with a quantitative approach. The study was conducted
at Hospital Dr. José Augusto Dantas (DJAD), located in the municipality of Parelhas, In Rio
Grande do Norte. The population was composed of all twenty-five (25) members of the
nursing staff of the Hospital DJAD. The survey instrument used was a semi-structured
questionnaire containing 11 questions that addressed data for the identification of the subject
of research and data concerning the purpose of the research. The main results allow us to
verify that 35% of professional study participants crashed with syringes, especially during
disposal of material (26%), these misfortunes took place mainly (29%) of carelessness /
inattention on the part of these professionals. So, what succinct biggest concern is that 53% of
these events were not reported because the workers, believe in low risk of contamination
(50%), another aspect worth mentioning, is that 60% members of the nursing staff use
Personal Protective Equipment, just depending on the procedure being performed. The
research may have presented some bias information, such as recall bias and suspicion of
exposure, which usually occurs when there is prior knowledge of the object of study, which
ends up making the responses biased. Finally, we identified as a factor that may contribute to
reduction in accident rates with needlestick, the creation of a Commission for the Prevention
of Accidents (CIPA) and a Committee of Infection Control (CCIH), so that they entrusting to
the strategies of education and health surveillance, thereby ensuring that promotional
measures, disease prevention and health protection of nursing staff and others, to take effect.
