Resumo:
In the hospital, in intensive care units, satisfaction coupled with employee motivation,
consolidates work practices positive repercussions on productivity and quality of care
provided to patients. This study aimed to determine if nurses are satisfied and motivated
professional with work in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). This is an exploratory, descriptive,
and quantitative and qualitative approach, developed with 16 nurses working in the sector of
Intensive Regional Hospital Mr Manoel Gonçalves de Abrantes, located in the municipality of
Sousa (PB) and Deputy Regional Hospital Dr . José de Sousa Maciel, headquartered in the
city of Cajazeiras (PB). The study nurses independent of sex, journey and scale of work that
belong to the active employees of those institutions at the time of data collection and who
voluntarily agreed to participate and signed the informed consent form (ICF). The data
collected in April 2013 through a semi-structured questionnaire were analyzed using
descriptive statistics and qualitative analysis. The project was submitted to the Ethics
Committee in Research of the University Hospital Alcides Carneiro (HUAC), Federal
University of Campina Grande (UFCG). The nurses attributed the promotion, recovery and
well-being of the patient as the main factors that stimulate their motivation to work in ICUs,
observing thus it is motivating to know that they are there to be useful on something.
However, the lack of materials and equipment in the industry and low wages constituted on
factors that cause demotivation these professionals. As a measure to further increase the
motivation to work, most cited better wages, thus realizing the weight that this factor has to
motivate the employee. No professional is interested in changing industry and there was
prevalence of reports of feeling happy and motivated at work, which shows that, despite the
difficulties, they are satisfied and motivated professional to work in ICUs and refer to the
degree of satisfaction has considerable impact on productivity and quality of their work within
this sector. Realized the need for investment by managers in measures to improve working
conditions and value professionals, thereby, productivity, satisfaction and motivation of these
ICU.
